John and I first went to Middleburg, Virginia back in May 2017—just a few months after we moved from NYC to DC. We really loved staying at Salamander Resort, and would totally stay there again. But when we began to plan another getaway in Middleburg, the rooms at the Red Fox Inn & Tavern were more affordable, so we booked a room there. This past Monday afternoon, we made the hour and fifteen minute drive out to Middleburg.
1. The Rise of Skywalker: seeing the latest Star Wars movie around Christmas has become a tradition in our household. We went to see the final installment on Christmas Day—it’s the perfect way to entertain ourselves when everything else is closed. I didn’t love this movie as much as The Last Jedi, but I was still entertained. I’m not enough of a Star Wars geek to be able to pick apart this and that, but I did have some quibbles. Overall, though, not a bad way to spend two and a half hours on Christmas.
1. Hellier: I had heard of this documentary but only recently found it on Amazon and started watching it this week. I blew through season one and now am in season two! The on-site investigations are eerie and the synchronicities are kind of blowing my mind. I’m always a fan of weird coincidences, so throw a whole bunch of those in with a paranormal investigation and I’m here for it. Sorry (not really sorry) if this poster wigs you out.
One of the items I bought during the Sephora holiday bonus was the Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip Set. The regular price of this mini lip product set was $42, but with the discount I spent $33.60. The set doesn’t appear to be available any longer, so I’m glad I snagged it when I did!
1. Holiday Decorations: okay, so I was raised Jewish and we never had a Christmas tree. I had a lot of fun decorating our place for Halloween and now that we own a home, I wanted it to look festive for the holidays. There was a menorah in my room at my parents’ house so I brought that back with me after Thanksgiving, and bought some candles for it at Target. I’m not super into the winter holidays but it’s nice to have some cute decor around. And Linus approves.
Black Friday has never really appealed to me…at least, not in the traditional, in-store mania sense. The online deals, though, are often too tempting to pass up. I ended up ordering from three websites on Black Friday, and as of a few days ago, everything has finally arrived. So I’m sharing my 2019 Black Friday haul with you!
I was so excited when my Winter 2019 FabFitFun [referral link] box hit my front steps! I saw the mailman drop it off, so I was able to snatch it immediately. I’m always worried about package thieves, especially with something so clearly branded as FabFitFun. This season’s box came with an appropriately cute winter design:
1. Baby Yoda: if you haven’t heard of this adorable little nugget, you’re living under the biggest rock known to humankind. Disney+ somehow managed to keep the biggest secret of its new Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, under wraps before release. And when The Child that we’re all calling Baby Yoda made its (his?) first appearance, we all died of cuteness. Funko announced they’re coming out with Baby Yoda Pops next May, and I’ve already pre-ordered one. I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE MY VERY OWN.
I didn’t have a lot of empties in November…I think that’s an indication that I have too much stuff! I’m always bouncing back and forth between a few skin care options for both my morning and nighttime routine. So I’m going to try to work on finishing up some products that I’m starting to run low on.
1. Introducing…Our New Cats! Our home has felt empty ever since we said goodbye to sweet Zoe in September. We recently started to feel ready to bring new kitties into our lives, so we went to a couple area shelters to meet some cats. These two super sweet bonded orange boys are just the type of cats we were looking for. Their names were Jack and Josh but we’ve changed them to Cheddar and Linus; they’re supposedly two and five years old, respectively. We think they’re both more like three or four. We applied to adopt them the day we met them, and then brought them home last Thursday. So far they’ve been adjusting very well to their new home. They’re such sweeties; Cheddar is a total love bug lap cat, and Linus is very playful but also likes affection. It’s wonderful to have some little fur buddies around again!
