Sharing My Geeky Birthday Gifts

Last week was SUCH a wonderful birthday week! Thank you to everyone for all of the birthday wishes! I treated myself to some things and John also got me some super(naturally) fun, geeky gifts that are the perfect intersection of my beauty and nerdy interests: Supernatural-themed beauty products!

Supernatural beauty products (+ socks!!)

Demon Hunter-Approved Makeup Brushes

I didn’t start watching Supernatural until it was already four seasons in (season FOURTEEN is coming this fall!!). But I was totally hooked right from the start. I’ve gone to many Supernatural panels at San Diego Comic-Con, with last year’s being one of the most epic panels I’ve seen in nine years of attending SDCC! I also went to a Supernatural convention in New Jersey once. I’m certainly not the most die-hard SPN fan out there, but I love me some Winchester brothers.

I honestly had no idea what my husband got me for my birthday; I only knew he made a trip to the mall to shop at Hot Topic. So on my birthday morning, I was very pleasantly surprised to open this Supernatural makeup brush set:

No demons will possess me while I’m using these brushes.

How adorable are these brushes?! They’re so soft, too. I love that the tips are tinted maroon; light-bristled brushes always look dirty after a couple uses. The three eyeshadow brushes are good for blending and the angled brush says it’s for powder. I’m not all that knowledgeable about which brush shapes to use when, but I think it could work for bronzer and highlighter, too.

Hunters Have Beauty Emergencies Too

The next gift I opened was this compact Hunter’s Emergency Kit with the anti-possession and other anti-demon symbols printed on it. The kit contains a mini holographic lip gloss, oil blotting paper, hair elastics, mini tweezers, a mini nail file, a Vamp-ish nail polish, and a makeup remover wipe. The little bag is so cute—I’m going to use it as my on-the-go makeup bag at Comic-Con next month! The nail file will definitely come in handy, because I cannot deal with nail snags when I’m out and about.

Give Monsters Some Lip

The third gift I opened was this set of four Supernatural lip products: one full-sized holographic lip gloss (same as the mini above) and three matte lip creams. The lip creams are pretty comfortable for a matte liquid lip, and I especially like the dark red shade. The burnt orange color will be good for fall.

I swatched the lip products on my arm:

The lip colors have really good staying power and require a bit of elbow grease to remove. I’m going to see if I can work up the courage to wear the gray shade to Comic-Con one day…scroll down to see how it looks on me!

Supernatural-eyes

The fourth and final gift I opened was the Supernatural Monster Guide Eyeshadow Palette. How fun is this?! Each shade is named after a type of monster in the show’s universe. (And FYI, a second palette exists that contains a shade called Assbutt.)

The mirror says: “Vampires, we kill the ones that sparkle for free”

The palette has a lucky thirteen shades in a variety of colors including mattes, shimmers, and glitters. The blues and greens are particularly pretty! The eyeshadows aren’t the best quality (I mean…we’re not talking about Chanel, here) but they’re fairly pigmented and definitely workable. The texture varies by shade and some have more fallout than others.

I swatched all of the shades on my arm so you can get a better idea of how they look. Here are the first six shades, going from left to right in the palette, down my arm:

Top to bottom: Jefferson Starships, Vampire, Vetala, Dragons, Rugaru, Crowley

And the remaining seven shades:

Top to bottom: Skinwalker, Ghouls, Phoenix, Djinn, Werewolf, Lucifer, Abbadon

The other night I played around with the palette and created a cool blue look using Djinn on my lids, Skinwalker in the crease, and Werewolf as a transition shade:

Later in the evening, John and I were sitting outside drinking Aperol spritzes on our deck and I decided to try the gray lipstick on to see how it would perform. It reads surprisingly blue on me, which complemented the blue eye look I had applied earlier (as well as my tank top!).

It’ll be a lot of fun to play around with my Supernatural birthday gifts some more! John really is the best…he totally gets me and I’m so lucky to be married to him. And I’m not just saying that because he reads my blog.  🙂
