My sixth annual 31 Days of Horror challenge is complete! I definitely had a little horror movie fatigue by the end of the month; it’s a “what the hell do I watch because there are too many options” sort of feeling. There was only one day this time around that I didn’t have a chance to sit down and watch a horror movie. But I did watch a movie that day and listed it here anyway.
Happy Pandemic Halloween! I hope you have a fun, safe, and socially distant spooky celebration. As I’m sure you’re well aware, this is my favorite holiday. I’m dressing up tonight even though I’m only going to hang out in my yard with a mask on! Stay tuned for costume and makeup photos.
I emptied a bunch of beauty products in October, including a few full sized hair care products. I also decluttered a couple items that needed to go.
1. The Boys Season Two: I loved the first season of this Amazon original, but I actually loved season two even more! The new character Stormfront, deliciously played by Aya Cash, is an intense addition to an already stellar lineup. And she’s such a great foil for Homelander, played with psychotic fervor by Antony Starr. The hyper-relevant storyline of this season is at times infuriating and uncomfortable. I’m curious where they’ll take the Scientology Church of the Collective storyline moving forward. Jensen Ackles of Supernatural fame is joining season three, and I CANNOT WAIT.
1. Sam Funko Pop Figure Deluxe: yes, I’m kicking off this Friday Five with another Trick ‘r Treat item. I pre-ordered this Spirit Halloween exclusive back in late August, and it just arrived this week. HOW FREAKING CUTE IS THIS LITTLE GUY?! I’ll probably take him out of the box eventually but I’m leaving him in there for now.
I’m back with my first Stitch Fix [affiliate link] review of 2020! I have gotten a couple Fixes since the last time I posted about this style subscription box, but didn’t get around to photographing the pieces before I sent them back so I didn’t have anything to share here. Then the pandemic hit and I kept rescheduling my Fix because I really had no need for new clothes other than workout stuff. I forgot to push my Fix back this time, so once I realized it was already too late I decided to request some comfy pieces for fall. Let’s be honest, I don’t need any new dresses or nice tops because I have nowhere to wear them.

1. Trick ‘r Treat Cross Stitch: I bought this Witchy Stitcher cross stitch kit from the Mystic Museum way back when the pandemic began. I started on it right away but kept getting distracted by other things (like Animal Crossing). This week, I FINALLY finished it! My work isn’t perfect, but I’m pretty happy with it. TrT is one of my all-time favorite Halloween movies and I’m excited to display my handiwork!
1. The Social Dilemma: this new Netflix documentary should be required viewing for every American. It features many people involved in the early days of social media who now think the technology is destroying the fabric of our society. They discuss how big tech companies like Facebook and Google are monetizing human beings, and how disinformation has proliferated on social media, polarizing and destabilizing us. And more. Please take the time to watch this film. I’m a little ashamed to say I haven’t even deleted FB after watching it, though I removed some apps from my phone and put time limits on others. It’s a start.
OCTOBER IS HERE! I could not be more thrilled. The morning air is now crisp and very comfortable for my morning walks. We’ve been able to turn the air conditioner off and open the windows a lot of the time. This is my favorite kind of weather!
I didn’t empty too many products last month, and I ended up decluttering a few things:
It’s that time of year again: the month in which I watch at least one horror movie per day. October 2020 will be my sixth year of watching a horror movie a day! I’ve already begun decorating inside our house for Halloween, and will start putting our yard decorations out tomorrow.
1. Make a Voting Plan: voter registration deadlines for the 2020 election are fast approaching. Please register to vote if you haven’t already. If you are registered, double and triple check your registration status. Visit iwillvote.com to find out how to register or to check your registration status. The website also has location-based information on voting by mail and voting in person, as well as dates and deadlines and whether you need to show an ID to vote*. Your local news outlets likely have a voting guide online (e.g., DCist has good ones for DC, MD, & VA).
The New York Times has a good interactive voting guide, which I recommend reading through. There’s a societal lack of attention to detail these days, but ALL of us voting by mail need to be extra diligent in following the instructions to ensure that our votes arrive in time and are counted. Make your voice heard by voting…do it early and only do it once (i.e., DO NOT mail your ballot and then go vote in person. That’s illegal)!
