It’s a weird and scary time right now, with COVID-19 panic having hit the US hard last week. I am on a medication that’s an immunosuppressant, so I’m staying at home as much as possible. TBH, I’m home a lot anyway so things aren’t all that different for me so far, other than washing my hands and cleaning a lot more than usual. This meme that’s been going around sums it up 100%:
My Spring FabFitFun Box is Here!
Sooooo things are a little nuts right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I started writing this post before the situation took a turn last week, and I feel slightly odd posting this now. Ironically, I got a virus on my laptop last week and have been spending most of my screen time changing my passwords because I’m afraid everything got compromised (I did have Geek Squad help back up and wipe my laptop). Anyway, because I had this post almost fully written before shit got real, I’m going ahead and sharing it. Please wash your hands well (frequently!), don’t touch your face, and practice social distancing. It will help keep us more vulnerable folks (I’m on an immunosuppressant) safe.
I was so excited for my latest FabFitFun [referral link] box to arrive! I kept checking the front stoop the day it was scheduled to arrive, because I wanted to catch it before porch pirates got to it (that’s a problem in our area, though—fingers crossed—we haven’t had anything stolen yet). The package hadn’t come by the time I went to bed but the next morning there it was on our stoop! It survived the night without being taken! Look at this adorable butterfly box design:
HBO Documentary, P50, Trader Joe’s
1. McMillion$: we watched the first couple episodes of this new HBO documentary this week…and I’m hooked. Of course I played the McDonald’s Monopoly game back in the day, along with everyone and their mother. (For the record, I never liked McDonald’s. I’ve never liked meat, and when I was a kid in the 80s they offered few options for non-meat eaters.) I had never heard of this crazy story involving fraudulent winners, so this doc is fascinating. If you start watching it, I also recommend listening to the companion podcast.
Beauty Empties for Feb
The shortest month of the year is now behind us! I’m excited because that means spring is around the corner. Our winter has actually been really mild, though, and we have a lot of green sprouts poking up in our yard.
My empties stash for February 2020 is a little light on full sized products, but as you’ll see below, I did a whole lot of masking!*
Five Years Already?!
Today is my fifth anniversary of starting this blog…I can hardly believe it! I kicked the blog off five years ago today with a post about winning an organic beauty bag. My orchid blog, Brooklyn Orchids, has been around for longer (in fact, it just hit the TEN year milestone!), but I started this blog as a place for me to write about my other, non-orchid-y interests.
So I wanted to say a big THANK YOU for reading my blog; it means a lot to have support for this little endeavor!
To celebrate five years of blogging about beauty and all kinds of other stuff, I did a shark sheet mask this morning. Now you know what I’d look like as a shark…lollllll no:
Thank you again for reading!
Orchid Bloom, Rose Chocolate Bar, and more
Happy Valentine’s Day! I totally skipped doing a Friday Five post last week because I was 100% socially tapped out and did basically nothing all week. So I didn’t really have much to write about.
1. New Orchid Bloom: this orchid recently started blooming in my greenhouse, so I thought Valentine’s Day would be the perfect time to share a photo! I love the intense red color.
Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Thoughts
Months ago, I posted about a lovely skin care gift I received from Erno Laszlo: the Hydra-Therapy collection (thank you, Erno Laszlo!). I couldn’t incorporate all the products into my routine at once; I’m always trying new things, so it’s taken awhile for me to get a sense of what I think. But I’m finally here to share my thoughts!
When ColourPop Discounts Strike…
My favorite affordable makeup brand, ColourPop, recently held a 20% off sitewide sale. Sooo yeah, I ordered a few things. When I say a few, I do mean a few—I didn’t go overboard. Not that I needed five new lip products. 😛 Here’s what I got in my small ColourPop haul:
The Outsider, Sephora Mini Haul, and more
1. The Outsider: so far we’ve only watched the first three episodes of this HBO series based on a Stephen King novel. But I am INTO IT. We all know Mr. King has a track record of starting stories off with a bang and then allowing them to fizzle by the end. Since this is an HBO show, I’m hopeful. The cast is GREAT (Ben Mendelsohn, Jason Bateman, Cynthia Erivo, and more). The vibe is sort of True Detective season one, and I’m very curious to see where the story goes. Fingers crossed it has a good ending! Now I want to read the book, too.
