Happy October! I love Fall, and Halloween is my favorite holiday, so the start of October is always exciting for me. I also love horror movies; even the really shitty, 2-star ones on Netflix usually have some sort of entertainment value (as in, “so bad they’re funny”).

1. Scream Queens: another year, another new Ryan Murphy show…not that that’s a bad thing! I love Murphy’s campy sensibility, and SQ is full of that, along with an excellent Heathers vibe, a heaping helping of extra bitchy Emma Roberts snark, and SO MUCH SCREAMING. I was amazed-slashed-amused by some of the stuff the pilot managed to get past FOX censors, including a metric shit ton of poop talk and the terms “gashes,” “blumpkins,” and “bikini burger” (I had to Google the latter two, so thanks for adding those to my vocabulary, Chanel No. 1). I’m confused by Nasim Pedrad’s character’s outfits—she’s supposedly stuck in the 90’s but her clothes look like solid 80’s to me. And what’s up with Chanel No. Whatever’s furry earmuffs? Also…candle vloggers, lol. 😛 My favorite characters so far are Jamie Lee Curtis’ Dean Munsch and Niecy Nash’s rent-a-cop Denise Hempville. It’s also fun to see Lea Michele play a super-weirdo. I can’t wait for more!

I’ve been fighting a cold all week and still feel pretty crappy, so I’m going to keep this brief (and BTW, it’s almost entirely St. Louis-related due to my trip home last weekend.)
1. This pretty little Wedgwood Jasperware St. Louis dish was a bridesmaid gift from a close friend of mine many years back when I was in her wedding party. It’s been sitting in my room at my parents’ house, but I decided to bring it back to NYC with me.

Birchbox: September 2015
How the hell did September happen already…and how on earth is it already halfway through the month?! Anyway, I just returned to Brooklyn after a few days of visiting my parents in St. Louis, and was greeted with my September Birchbox when I came home. Side note: I keep accidentally typing “Bitchbox,” which I think would be an awesome idea for a subscription service…I’m just not certain what those boxes would contain. 😛
For the September box we were given a choice of either customizing our box by picking one of four samples, or selecting the customer favorites box. I decided to pick my sample: the POP Beauty Portfolio Eyeshadow in Sugar Plum.
Now, on to one of the most fun parts of getting a Birchbox every month: this month’s box design reveal!

Real Estate: St. Louis vs. Brooklyn
While at home visiting my parents in St. Louis I was browsing through the Ladue News over breakfast; the neighborhood weekly is basically real estate porn with some articles thrown in there for shits and giggles. The LN contained a full page ad for a home for sale called Falicon Mansion, a place so insane it has its own website. After checking out the website, complete with—no joke—84 photos of the mansion, I thought it’d be fun to do a little St. Louis area vs. Brooklyn real estate comparison. Continue Reading…

1. Aperol Spritz! I know, I’ve written about this aperitivo a bunch lately, but I went to a friend’s backyard BBQ over Labor Day weekend and one of the available drinks was the Spritz, complete with orange wedges for garnish. So of course I mixed myself one (or several). Deeelish!
90’s Nostalgia: 10 Beauty & Fashion Memories

I’ve been saying for awhile that the 90’s are back—when Gin Blossoms songs start popping up everywhere you go, you know something’s up (I hear them in a store at least once a week, and it’s surprisingly not “Hey Jealousy” 100% of the time). It’s not just the music: 90’s beauty and fashion are back with a vengeance, and this recent post on Makeup and Beauty Blog made me feel like taking my own walk down memory lane. I definitely had both the Revlon Toast of New York lipstick and CK One perfume that Karen wrote about in her post! I’ve put together my own list of some other distinctly 90’s beauty and fashion items that stand out in my mind. For age reference, I graduated from high school in 1996; college in 2000. Thanks to Karen for the inspiration!Continue Reading…

1. Bitmoji App: a friend introduced me to this free app about a month or so ago, and I love it. I don’t really blog much about tech; that’s because I’m still somewhat analog compared to many folks these days. I insist on reading actual books (as evidenced by our wall of bookshelves); I still have an iPhone 5 with an outdated OS that I refuse to update; and I don’t get what Snapchat is—nor do I really care. But an app that lets you create a little avatar of yourself (see mine below) and send funny cartoon versions of it to friends? Yes, please! The app even has free theme packs, like Game of Thrones, Terminator, Alice in Wonderland, Inside Out, and more. Why use words when you can express yourself with an overly dramatic “I Can’t Even” or “Yaaasss” Bitmoji of yourself?

#tbt to Our Honeymoon in Italy
I don’t know why I never thought to do a Throwback Thursday post here before! One year ago today, my husband and I were in Venice on the first leg of our belated honeymoon. So in honor of our wonderful trip, which I’ve been reminiscing about a lot lately, I wanted to share a few #tbt photos from Venice. I know #tbt is traditionally just one photo, but I’m doing it my own way. 🙂 Click any photo to see a larger version.
Wandering around Venice on our first afternoon, jetlagged but so happy to be there.
My First Renaissance Faire
Last weekend my husband and I drove upstate for a little getaway. We planned to hike in Harriman State Park on Saturday and then just hang out and do suburban things like eat dinner at restaurants in strip malls (we call this Suburban Date Night, but I guess most of the rest of the U.S. calls it Going Out to Dinner). When we checked into our hotel—a Residence Inn in Saddle River, NJ—there was a sign at the front desk advertising the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, NY. We looked at each other and said, “obviously we have to go.”
