1. Vive la France. The terrorist attacks in Paris last week were absolutely heartbreaking and inhuman. Last Saturday evening I spotted this lovely candlelit tribute on a stoop in my neighborhood, so I wanted to share it here.

Rent the Runway: My First Review
Have you ever wished you could wear a designer dress to an event without having to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars? Rent the Runway is a website that allows you to do just that…and I love it. I actually started using RTR four years ago; the first time I rented a dress from them was for a swanky New Year’s Eve party. I rented a David Meister full-length silver sequined number that fit perfectly and made me feel like a princess; I was hooked. I’ve rented dresses from RTR for many events, and even with a couple of shipping glitches I’m still happy to use the service.
So…how does Rent the Runway work?

1. Travel Candle Set from Brooklyn Candle Studio: I’ve talked about these lovely candles before (and took a candlemaking workshop there as well!). They recently offered free shipping for a limited time, so I figured I might as well stock up. I decided to go with a $39 set of four gold travel candles—you get to pick your four fragrances, so I chose Cedarwood Vanilla, Rose Botanica, Montana Forest, and Pumpkin Harvest. They all smell incredible!

Birchbox: November 2015
It’s that time of the month again: my Birchbox arrived yesterday! For the November box, subscribers were given the option to choose a sample from Birchbox’s own new makeup line, LOC (which stands for Love of Color), or to opt for a box guest curated by YouTube beauty star Tati Westbrook. I’ve never heard of her (sorry, Tati) and I was interested in LOC so I chose a rose gold eyeshadow stick.
The November box design is especially cute; I’m such a sucker for floral graphics:

1. Twisty the Clown at the Hollywood Bowl: I mentioned that we went to Danny Elfman’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Concert in Los Angeles last weekend, and the seats were filled with people in amazing costumes. But my favorite costume that I saw was this guy who absolutely nailed it with his Twisty costume from American Horror Story: Freakshow, which I just finished watching recently. Terrifyingly well done, sir.
31 Days of Horror: My Complete Viewing List

Halloween is over (sad!), and I have successfully completed my 31 Days of Horror Challenge with a couple bonus viewings to boot. I mostly stuck to movies available on Netflix streaming, which limited my options pretty significantly. There were a bunch of films I wanted to watch but weren’t available to stream so I skipped them (for example: The Evil Dead, the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween). But I definitely managed to get some favorites in along with a lot of first time viewings!
Here is the full list of horror movies that I watched…Continue Reading…

Friday Five: Halloween Edition
Happy (almost) Halloween! In honor of my favorite holiday, this week’s Friday Five is centered around Halloweeny things.
1. Halloween Nail Stickers by Kiss: I found these at the drugstore and obviously had to buy them. I painted my nails with two coats of a way-too-old Sally Hansen black nail polish and then stuck these fun little guys on before applying a top coat. My DIY mani isn’t the most professional looking, but I still think my nails turned out pretty cute.

1. Kaldi’s Coffee: this is a popular coffee shop in St. Louis, and my mom had this bag of Cafe Kaldi grounds (a blend of African and Latin American beans) at home when I visited last month. I made coffee using these beans a couple times while I was there, and then my mom told me I could bring them back to NY with me because she rarely makes coffee at home. So I’ve been having this stuff every morning—I’m currently drinking it as I type—and it is delicious!

More Lipstick Fun: Bite Beauty Discovery Set
I recently treated myself to some goodies from Sephora: the Bite Beauty Discovery Set ($55, valued at $110). If I’m being completely honest, part of the reason I ordered this set when I did was because Sephora also sent me a code for a free Ole Henrisksen VIB Deluxe Sample Set with a $35 purchase—a set very similar to “The Whole Truth” set that they sell for $46. So I got some extra bang for my buck. 🙂

1. Black Flamingo: My husband and I did a long-overdue date night last Friday and went to dinner at this new vegetarian/vegan taco joint in Williamsburg. And holy hell, were we impressed with the food!! My husband is a meat eater but he was totally into everything he ordered, as was I. I got three tacos: The Banh Mi, The Bibimbap, and The Seasonal (not pictured below—I was too excited to take photos of my food). YUM! I highly recommend this place for tacos (and cocktails too).
