I have a growing list of blog posts that I want to write and I will get to them, but today I wanted to share something I just heard about this morning: Wands for Wildlife!

I have a growing list of blog posts that I want to write and I will get to them, but today I wanted to share something I just heard about this morning: Wands for Wildlife!

1. Beautiful Blooms: last week I went to the U.S. Postal Museum to see the new exhibit of flowering plants on stamps. The exhibit was small but lovely; I especially liked the below concept art for Botanical Congress stamps that were issued in 1969. I liked this set of stamps because they included a lady slipper orchid (upper right)!

My 22nd Stitch Fix showed up yesterday afternoon so I got right to trying the pieces on and taking photos! I feel like it’s been forever since my last Fix so I was excited to dive in. The colors and patterns in the box were totally on point for my taste…and look, the teal item even matches the accent pillows on our sofa:

1. Orchid Spectrum: this week I went to the U.S. Botanic Garden orchid exhibit and found my new favorite orchid among tons of amazing specimens. This stunning purple-black orchid is a Vandachostylis Colmarie ‘Carmela’ and I am utterly in love. I posted about my visit (with lots of pics!) over on my orchid blog, bklynorchids.com, so feel free to check them out there!

I have never written an “empties” post before because it typically takes me awhile to use up not only full sized products, but samples too. I did finish up a bunch of products in February so I thought it was time to do my first empties post!

1. Black Panther: THIS MOVIE. Everything about it is wonderful. Considering my position of white privilege I’m unqualified to really wade into the discussion, so instead I’ll tell an anecdote. When my husband and I were leaving the movie theater, a little black boy—maybe about four years old—posed in front of the lobby signage for Black Panther. He smiled and crossed his arms over his chest in the Wakanda Forever sign as his mom took photos of him. Then he said “I wanna be like him!” And that, right there, is why this movie needed to be made. This movie is long overdue, but at least it’s here now. Also: THAT CAST, THO. Holy. Shit.

The more I scroll through Instagram and browse makeup websites, the more I appreciate the beauty of beauty products. There’s just something about shiny new products that makes me want to put them on a shelf to admire and never destroy their pristine state. I’ve developed this fantasy of having an area—or, fuck it, since this is a fantasy, a whole room—where I can display beauty products that I find aesthetically pleasing. Brands put a ton of thought into product design, so it only makes sense that some beauty products are literal works of art. People buy art to enjoy in their homes—why not beauty products? I mean…just look at these Pat McGrath Mothership eyeshadow palettes:

If you follow my blog you may recall that I recently received my first haul from ColourPop. Within days of me placing that order, ColourPop released a 24-shade collection of what the brand is calling its first “true” lipstick, called Lux Lipstick.

I’m back with another Play! by Sephora post! My February 2018 box arrived yesterday morning so I immediately cracked it open in an unboxing video:
1. Z Palette [paid link]: after watching some YouTube videos of beauty bloggers decluttering and depotting their makeup into customizable palettes I decided to try the same. I ordered myself this really fun holographic Z Palette from Amazon and took to depotting my Urban Decay Naked palettes. It. Did. Not. Go. Well. But that’s a story for another day…and at least I have this pretty palette that still has plenty of space for more makeup.
