1. Soul Strolls: I can’t remember where I read about this, but the Congressional Cemetery in Northeast DC holds these spooky AND informational tours over two weekends in October. This kind of thing is right up my alley, so I got VIP tickets for my husband and I. The tickets included a one-hour tour plus three drink tickets to the speakeasy set up in the cemetery’s Public Vault. We went last Friday and the weather happened to be absolutely perfect, with just the teeniest hint of crispness on a rather warm night. A tour guide brought us to several different graves, where costumed actors portraying cemetery residents told us their stories. I especially enjoyed the actor pictured below who embodied Mary Hall, a successful madam who opened her brothel a few blocks from the Capitol building (smart). I also loved the stories of Adelaide Johnson, a sculptor and feminist ahead of her time. Getting to step inside a vault to order cocktails after the tour was pretty awesome, too.

Play! by Sephora: October 2017
I was curious what October’s Play! by Sephora theme would be because they already did a fall theme last month. This month’s box arrived right around the time I received an email telling me it had shipped; either their notification system is delayed or Sephora has secretly figured out teleportation! This month’s theme is Complexion Companions: products meant to “set you up for a flawless look.” Sounds good to me!

1. HALLOWEEN CANDY: I mean, is there really any explanation needed?! I spotted these in the checkout line at Michaels a few weeks ago while shopping for cross stitch supplies, and they basically jumped into my basket on their own. I’ve managed not to eat them thus far, but that’s not gonna be the case for much longer. I can’t wait to eat some brains and eyeballs!

Rent the Runway: Marchesa Notte Green Lace Cocktail Dress
I haven’t had many occasions to use Rent the Runway lately, but I attended an event last Friday that was the perfect excuse to get all gussied up in a designer dress! As per usual I spent way too much time browsing Rent the Runway’s website, trying to find the ideal dress for the party—a mock wedding (I can’t really say any more than that).
After mulling over a ton of options, I decided to rent this gorgeous Marchesa Notte Green Lace Cocktail Dress:

Happy Friday the 13th! I chose this week’s items before I realized I’d be posting this on the 13th…and the first two are totally on-theme. A happy accident! 🙂
1. My Favorite Murder: I’ve been on a major podcast kick lately—I know, I’m late to the party, as usual. I am pretty much going down the podcast rabbit hole because every podcast I listen to ends up mentioning other podcasts they like, so I check those out too. I actually can’t remember where I first heard about My Favorite Murder, but I am hooked! Each episode is literally just two true crime fans, Karen and Georgia, discussing a murder of interest to them. They’ve been at this for at least a year and there are now 80+ episodes for me to get through, starting from the beginning. Karen and Georgia have comedy backgrounds so they manage to make murder funny while also taking the gravity of the topic into account. And their signoff? “Stay sexy, don’t get murdered.” So, stay sexy and don’t get murdered by a machete-wielding maniac (or his mother) on this Friday the 13th!
Whole Foods Body Care Sale: My Haul
Yesterday I went shopping at my local Whole Foods and discovered they were having a 25% off sale on all body care products. So I picked up a few things and decided I should go back to stock up before the sale ended (I know, I’m such a sucker). I figured I might as well share my haul here!

1. Maryland Renaissance Festival: last weekend my husband and I took a little day trip to the Ren Fest in Annapolis, Maryland! We arrived about a half hour after it opened and went straight to the costume rental shop. We had seen costume rentals at the Ren Faire we attended in upstate New York a couple years ago but didn’t bother partaking then. I chose this cute fair maiden outfit and John got outfitted as a knight, and we spent a few hours roaming the grounds and taking in the sights. It was more crowded than the NY one but it also seemed a little bigger. There’s a ton of stuff to do at this Renaissance Festival and I highly recommend it! The festival takes place on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of October.

1. Haunted House Cookie Kit: I saw Jessica Chobot from Bizarre States post a pic of this completed “gingerbread” haunted house and immediately had to have one for myself! I tried to find it at Target in St. Louis but they didn’t have it; fortunately I was able to find it on Target.com for about $15.50 including shipping. My husband and I are going to build this little house together and I cannot wait!!

Cringe With Me: Horrible Haikus
While at my parents’ house in St. Louis last week I pulled a clothbound book off the shelf in my bedroom closet and flipped through it. What was inside was so incredibly cringe-worthy that I decided to snap photos of the contents and embarrass the hell out of my nine-year-old self here on my blog. 🙂

Play! by Sephora: September 2017
September has been a bit of a whirlwind, so I practically forgot about my Play! by Sephora box until it arrived last week! The day after I received it I went to visit family in St. Louis for a few days, so I didn’t get a chance to publish my post until now. This month’s box has a “Fall Into Beauty” theme to coincide with the changing of the seasons. Surprisingly, there were no products containing pumpkin. 😛
