Happy March! I’m thrilled March is here because it means that spring is around the corner. It snowed a bunch here in DC lately, and I’m OVER IT. We’re still in a pandemic and I’d love some warmer weather for taking walks!
I emptied quite a few beauty products during the shortest month of the year:
1. Make It Black Products: I mentioned this initiative a couple weeks ago, and the products I ordered have finally all arrived! I bought Cleopatra Ink Afro.Dis.Iac Liquid Eyeliner from Uoma Beauty, Briogeo Avocado + Kiwi Mega Moisture Superfood Mask, and ColourPop Lippie Stix in Galore. I’m very excited to try these products! All of the proceeds from Make it Black products will support Black founders in the early stage of their businesses. So by buying products from the collection, you’re helping contribute to equity in small business development and Black employment.
1. Introducing sarahheiman.com! A few months ago I decided to create a personal website as a main hub for my two blogs. I managed to get a .com with my name and designed a site using Squarespace (this is not sponsored in any way, I’m paying for the service). It took me quite some time to put the site together in a way I’m happy with. I finally felt ready to launch the website yesterday…which coincided with the sixth anniversary of Adventures of Herman! I’m pretty proud of myself. John gave me a little assistance and advice along the way, but for the most part I did it all on my own. 🙂 Feel free to head on over and check my new site out.
1. Make It Black: I discovered this initiative via ColourPop, but many additional beauty brands are participating, including Briogeo, UOMA Beauty, NYX, Morphe, and Maybelline. Founded by UOMA Beauty owner and Pull Up for Change creator Sharon Chuter, the initiative’s goal is to have meaningful conversation around the word Black, which has multiple negative meanings built into its definition. It’s been months since I last received a Stitch Fix [affiliate link]! I actually meant to reschedule this Fix for a later date but forgot to do so before it was too late. No matter—I’ve maybe bought one piece of clothing since my last Fix, so I decided some new cozy items might be fun. By the way, I’ve been wearing the joggers from my last Fix constantly!

Juvia’s Place is a brand that’s been all over Instagram makeup accounts for quite some time now. The makeup has been on my to-try list because I always see beauty lovers rave about their colorful eyeshadow palettes.
As soon as I heard that ColourPop was launching an Animal Crossing: New Horizons makeup collab, I wanted to try to buy at least a couple items. I played SO MUCH ACNH last year—during the pandemic, it became a huge part of my life. Daily check-ins in on my island, decorating the place, completing tasks, chatting with cute villagers, collecting items…it’s very much my kind of game.
Happy first beauty empties post of the year! I didn’t use up a ton of products, but there are a couple good ones here, including a beloved mask. My photos aren’t great because I took them on our first real snowy day of the season, so I didn’t have good natural lighting.
1. Welcome, President Biden & Vice President Harris!! Things felt touch and go here in DC after the domestic terrorist insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. I was nervous leading up to and even after President Joe Biden and MADAM Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in on January 20. I desperately hoped that everyone would remain safe throughout Inauguration Day and beyond. Fortunately it all went smoothly, though a week later we still have fencing and razor wire around the Capitol and thousands of National Guard troops are here to stay through mid-March. I’m still hoping things will be peaceful, but I’m positive there will be more violent plots. Anyway, for now, please enjoy this awesome yard sign created by some neighbors. Fantastic!
I just posted this over on my orchid blog, and I’m sharing it here as well. It’s hard to process yesterday’s sickening insurrection on the U.S. Capitol Building by domestic terrorists. I’m here to state some of my own thoughts about yesterday’s disgusting events.
