My seventeenth (!) Stitch Fix arrived the other day and made for a very welcome distraction from packing up the apartment for our upcoming move to DC.

1. US Capitol: we went down to DC for a few days this week (so we could get our new apartment keys!!). My husband had meetings on Monday and it was a beautiful day out, so I took a walk from the Navy Yard up to the Capitol. Despite everything that’s going on with the dumpster of deplorables administration, the buildings and monuments in our nation’s capitol remain an admirable sight to behold.

1. Tell Homeland Security to stop Steve Bannon from joining the National Security Council: yep, I’m going a little political here today.* I received an email from the Southern Poverty Law Center this morning that Homeland Security is tallying phone calls on whether Americans support or oppose Bannon’s appointment to the NSC. I wholeheartedly oppose the appointment so I just sent an email, and I’ll also try calling today to register my opinion. If you’d like to make the call too, instructions on how to do so are in the image below. To send an email, click here. I haven’t always been much of an activist, but these days reading the news each morning is like waking up to a fresh new nightmare, and I simply cannot sit with my thumbs up my ass and do nothing.

1. The Good Place: I saw a premiere of the pilot episode at the show’s SDCC panel last summer and really enjoyed it. What I said when I posted my Comic-Con recap was “I’m totally gonna watch the show when it premieres.” But a case of Too Much Good TV got in the way and my husband and I didn’t get around to this show until recently. We’re only about halfway through the first season, but it’s a whole lot of fun! I have some theories about what’s going on, so I’m curious to see if my ideas actually pan out. I’m aware that there’s some big twist in the season finale, but I’ve managed to avoid spoilers about it.

A Big Move Coming Soon
I’ve kept quiet about this for some time, but I have exciting news: my husband and I are moving to Washington, DC! I decided not to make the announcement here until we had signed a lease on an apartment, because in my mind that was when the move would become officially official. 🙂

Well, that time has come—we’ve signed a lease on a place that we’re very excited about, and the plan is to be all moved in by March 1. We’re moving to an apartment off the H Street Corridor, in a neighborhood that’s technically called Old City #1 but what some apparently call Northeast or Near Northeast. I’m SO excited about our new place—it has a dishwasher, a washer and dryer, two full bathrooms, and a deck—none of which we have here in Brooklyn. You certainly get more for your money outside of NYC! I feel like we’ll finally be able to live like “real people,” haha.
It is definitely bittersweet to be leaving New York City after 15 years here, but as an introvert it doesn’t take much for the city to totally wear me out. It’s actually somewhat shocking that I’ve lasted this long (and is quite an accomplishment, if I may say so myself!). My husband and I have both known that we didn’t want to be here forever; we just didn’t know where else we’d want to live. His business is expanding to DC, so the decision was basically made for us.
I must say, though I absolutely LOATHE the process of moving (and our most recent move was just a year and a half ago), I’m very excited to relocate to a lovely new city that has a ton of culture to explore. All those free museums! The fact that we’ve just inaugurated an overgrown asshole of a five-year-old-in-chief does take the wind out of my sails a bit, but I’ve already been living in the same city as that flaming piece of orange garbage for the past 15 years. Living outside of NYC, where I’ve been for most of my adult life, will be a big lifestyle change—we’re even going to lease a car!—but it’s one that I actually welcome. I do fear that I’ll experience culture shock once removed from Brooklyn, but I think it will be good for me to be out of NYC.
So that’s my big news! If I am a little scarce around here for the next month and a half or so, now you know why. I’m going to try my best to keep up with my regular blog features, but it’s possible I may skip or delay some posts. We will see how it goes. 🙂

Play! by Sephora: January 2017
Welcome to my first ever review of a Play! by Sephora box. To switch things up after two years with Birchbox, I canceled that subscription last month and signed up for Sephora’s similar service. My introductory box arrived this past weekend and I couldn’t wait to tear into it!

1. Bullet Journal Stamps: immediately after reading this blog post, I ordered this acrylic stamp set from Amazon, along with a set of ColorBox Cat’s Eye ink pads. I’ve never used stamps like this before and didn’t realize that you really should use them with acrylic stamp mounts, so I also ordered a set of those and they just arrived last night. I cannot wait to have fun with these in my Bullet Journal!*
Friday the 13th Five
Happy Friday the 13th, all! May this traditionally unlucky day bring good things your way. 🙂
1. Surprise Snowstorm: no one seemed to have any idea that we were going to get several inches of snow last weekend! My husband and I ventured out for a little walk, and our neighborhood was just gorgeous. The snow is mostly melted now; all that remains is some gross slush.

Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled that 2016 has been laid to rest and am ready to get this year rolling. The sooner we can get Trump in AND OUT of office, the better. 🙂
1. Stella & Dot Icon Convertible Watch: I actually ordered this watch more than a month ago but completely failed to post about it. I had been wanting to get a watch for quite some time, and when I saw that Stella & Dot was offering this one at a deeply discounted price—$49 instead of the usual $148—I had to have it. (This watch is currently on sale for $88.80, still good deal.) And I love it! It comes with a gold and a silver bezel for the face plate so you can switch it out depending on your mood. Cute!

Friday Five: Best of 2016
For my final Friday Five in a year I think we’re all ready to set afloat and shoot a flaming arrow at, I’m going to retain a bit of positivity and list five of my favorite things from 2016.
1. Our Los Angeles Vacation: we had some lovely times traveling in the LA and Palm Springs area early this year. We stayed in Hermosa Beach, fed lorikeets at the aquarium in Long Beach, enjoyed stunning vistas in Palos Verdes and Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, and had some fun times with friends and family. We also managed some quality relaxation time by the pool in Palm Desert and visited Joshua Tree National Park (the first of three national parks we went to this year!). If I had to pick a favorite part of this trip, I think I’d say Joshua Tree. National parks are a precious thing and it’s always special to visit them.
