Hanukkah came very early this year—it began on December 2 so it has already come and gone! I don’t do much holiday celebrating, but my mom always asks me for a gift wish list. So I came up with a list for her and I received all of it! I mostly asked for beauty products, but I got a few other things too. Here’s the full array of my gifts, including books and jewelry in addition to the beauty goodies:
1. My New Sephora: I’m lucky (or unlucky, depending on your perspective) to have a Sephora just a short walk from our new home. I’ll be walking past it a lot so I will need to learn some restraint! I managed to go inside without buying anything last week, so I’ll have to keep that up. 😛 I love the cute “Hello, Capitol Hill” floor design just inside the entry!
1. December Bullet Journal Spread: I can’t believe it’s already almost 2019…but you know what, I am SO ready to say good riddance to 2018. This year has had some highlights, but there have also been some low lows. I’m ready to move on. Anyway, here’s my holiday-themed Bullet Journal spread for this month!

1. Happy Thanksgiving: I hope you all enjoyed your holiday yesterday! I’m in LA visiting my husband’s family instead of going to St. Louis like we usually do. It actually rained here on Thanksgiving morning, and the hills of Glendale were foggy as the sun started to rise on my early morning Starbucks run. So beautiful.
Sephora sent my November Play! box pretty early this month, but I’ve been busy so it’s taken me some time to get my shit together and write this post. I did manage to film an unboxing video the day after my box arrived, so please check it out if you’re so inclined:
1. First Snow: we had a bit of a surprise first snow of the season yesterday! The forecast called for a wintry mix, but I woke up to a dusting of snow covering the deck. The snow got heavy at times; we ended up with about an inch before the snow turned into an actual wintry mix. I do enjoy the first snow of the season, but I’m not into the snow that comes after that.
It’s time to do a six-week check-in on my skin care experiment! In early October I began using two products from Osmosis Skincare twice daily on my major dark spots to see if I could get them to fade. If you haven’t read the initial post about my experiment, click here to check it out.
1. John Douglas at Death Becomes Us: Brightest Young Things hosted a true crime festival in DC last weekend. True crime is super popular right now due to podcasts like My Favorite Murder and Serial as well as documentaries like Making a Murderer and The Staircase. I have a master’s degree in forensic psychology (which I’m not using), so this stuff is right up my alley. When I saw that John Douglas was doing a panel, I had to go! The character Jack Crawford from Silence of the Lambs is based on him, as is Holden Ford in Mindhunter. I’ve read a few of his books and was interested to see him speak in person. He basically just sat and spoke for an hour and a half, in a somewhat-but-not-quite meandering fashion, but it was fascinating to see the legend in the flesh.
