Because National Lipstick Day Sale + Zodiac Collection

Some beauty brands are killing it when it comes to convincing customers buy their products regularly; ColourPop is one of said brands. They offer frequent promotions—I don’t think it’s exaggerating to say their deals come biweekly. In fact, as of this writing they’re running a BOGO deal on their Super Shock Shadows. Though their regular prices are already very affordable, their promos are so hard to resist! So here I am sharing another ColourPop haul with some products I’m super stoked about.

The Haul: An Overview

I got suckered into ordering three liquid lipsticks during ColourPop’s National Lipstick Day sale at the end of July. All of their liquid lipsticks and glosses were $3.90 instead of $6 or $6.50. It was just one of those offers you can’t refuse!

The brand also recently released The Zodiac Collection in collaboration with YouTuber Kathleen Lights. I thought the products were GORGEOUS but initially didn’t think I would actually want to wear most of the shades, so I didn’t order it along with the liquid lips. Then I started seeing swatches of The Zodiac Pressed Powder Shadow Palette online, and I changed my mind. I needed this beauty in my own collection! And of course I had to get that free shipping, baybee! (as Jackie of Natch Beaut would say) so I ordered a Lux Lipstick and an eyeshadow brush.

The Liquid Lips

Thus far I had only tried a Blotted Lip and a Lux Lipstick—both of which I like. So when the liquid lips and gloss went on sale I decided to step outside my comfort zone and order some new-to-me formulas.

Top to Bottom: First of All, Flying Horses, Zuma

I decided to get a bright berry Ultra Satin Lip called First of All, which I don’t currently see on the website. Maybe it sold out during the promo and ColourPop is discontinuing it? I don’t wear bold lips that often, but I think this will be a great late summer/early fall going out shade. The formula dries quickly but it’s not quite as drying as matte liquid lips tend to be. And this stuff STAYS PUT. I basically need a sandblaster to remove it.

The second item I selected was the Ultra Glossy Lip in Flying Horses, a very pretty sheer dusty rose. This shade is much more typical for me, but I don’t have a ton of lip gloss in my collection at the moment so I thought it would be a good addition. I absolutely LOVE this color, but I don’t love the brush. It’s a little thin and pointy, so it doesn’t cover the lip in one swipe—even on my not-super-full lips. Regardless, Flying Horses is a great gloss shade to use on its own or over other lipsticks.

The third lip product I ordered was the Ultra Blotted Lip in Zuma, a warm nude. I was curious how this liquid formula would compare to the original Blotted Lip. UBL performs more like a traditional matte liquid lip than the Blotted Lip, which comes in stick form and is waxier and more balm-like. I haven’t tried ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip, but my guess is that the Ultra Blotted Lip has less coverage. Because I don’t love dry lips (UNDERSTATEMENT) I’ve tried Flying Horses as a topper over Zuma. I know that defeats the purpose of the blotted lip look, but it’s a great combo!

The Zodiac Palette

I can’t say I’m familiar with Kathleen Lights’ work, but holy crap, she and ColourPop did an amazing job with The Zodiac Collection. ColourPop’s packaging is always awesome, but this design is next-level beautiful:

Here’s how ColourPop describes each shade:

The Aries: This metallic firey orange is as bold as your confidence

The Taurus: You can rely on this matte camel brown, uh huh!

The Gemini: Express yourself in this metallic antique gold

The Cancer: This soft peachy pink with a golden sheen feels like home

The Leo: This soft coral with a gold flip is sure to grab your attention

The Virgo: You’ll wear this matte dark chocolate brown with practically every look

The Libra: This matte light dusty rose brings balance to any look

The Scorpio: Share your passion with this rich metallic plum

The Sagittarius: Up for an adventure? Try this matte magenta purple

The Capricorn: Shoot for the stars with this black with gold glitter

The Aquarius: This matte periwinkle blue will unleash your creativity

The Pisces: Be a daydream believer in this vibrant metallic aqua

I mentioned that I first thought this palette wasn’t very wearable for me because I tend to stick with neutral shadows. But when I took a closer look, the palette actually does contain a fair amount of neutrals. Out of the more colorful shades, the only one I don’t see myself wearing is Aries; I don’t feel like orange is my color, but I’ll at least try it at home and see what I think. Sagittarius, Aquarius, and Pisces are not very “me” shades but will make for a fun pop of color now and then.

Here you can see all twelve Zodiac palette shades swatched on my arm:

A couple of the shadows (Sagittarius and Aquarius) swatched a bit patchy, but I think they’ll perform okay when applied over an eyeshadow primer. They’re also not colors I see myself using often so I’m not too concerned. Pisces is SUPER metallic with chunky glitter, so that will likely be a special occasion-only shade.

And if you’re wondering, I’m a Gemini. I think the gold shade representing my sign is very pretty! It would look great with the Lux Lipstick that I’m about to show you.

The Lux Lipstick

I selected Lux Lipstick in Liquid Courage for a few reasons. First, I wanted to try another lipstick from this line but wasn’t super into the two Zodiac collection shades. I hardly ever buy red lipstick but on a whim I decided to filter by reds while browsing. Liquid Courage is described as a brick red, and I thought it would be a good red for me: not too bright, not too dark. Plus, these lipsticks are $7 and they’re incredible quality for the price.

How gorgeous is this red shade:

The Brush

Finally, I added this $6 Large Shader Brush to my cart in order to hit that $30 minimum for free shipping. Well played, ColourPop. This is the first ColourPop brush I’ve bought and I’m impressed with its quality for the price (broken record here). The bristles are soft yet firm, if that makes any sense. It’ll be great for applying color all over my eyelids.

Needless to say, I’m excited to play around with my ColourPop haul goodies and see what kind of looks I can create with the eye palette. Though I tend to play it safe with makeup colors, I do enjoy challenging myself from time to time and forcing myself to leave the house wearing something other than neutral tones.

Have you picked up anything from the new Zodiac Collection? If so, are you a fan of the products?
