My August 2016 Birchbox arrived a couple days ago but it’s taken me a little time to actually sit down and write about it. This month’s box design is not my favorite but it’s still pretty cute, with a sort of 80’s retro feel (so hot right now, what with Stranger Things and all!).

This week’s Throwback Thursday is another photo from a family visit to my grandparents in West Virginia when I was a toddler (and an only child, for the moment).
Stitch Fix: August 2016 Review
It is HOT HOT HOT here in Brooklyn—according to my weather app it currently feels like 106°F outside—and when it’s that hot out I just go NOPE and sit my ass inside, in the AC. Fortunately, my August Stitch Fix box arrived yesterday to help keep me occupied during this self-imposed heat lockdown. This is my fifteenth Fix and it actually arrived almost a week early; I had scheduled it for August 18th but it arrived on the 12th!
Here’s a sneak peek at the goodies my stylist picked out for me this time around:

1. Chobani Chili Lime Meze Dip: when I saw this dip at my local grocery store it basically jumped into my shopping basket. I love trying out dips so this container was calling my name. I am in love with this stuff! It’s full of flavor; it’s tangy, creamy, spicy, and lime-y all at the same time. I’ve even started using it in place of sour cream on my nachos and quesadillas (which I make a lot of at home 😛 ). Chobani makes three other flavors as well: Roasted Red Pepper, Three Pepper Salsa, and Smoked Onion and Parmesan. I want to try ’em all!

#tbt to the 90’s
This week’s Throwback Thursday is a very 90’s pic of me, I believe from freshman year of college:

I’m wearing such a mildly club kid-meets-sorority girl outfit! That striped top would have looked right at home with super wide leg jeans and tiny butterfly clips in my hair, but instead I paired it with those boot leg black pants that became so trendy when I was a freshman in college. This was also back in the day when I wore a ton of rings (which I sort of love and want to do again!). Ah, college. 🙂
Friday Five
1. Stranger Things: I binge-watched this new Netflix show on my own in two days this week and have already begun re-watching it, with my husband this time. I could go on about this show all day, but instead I’ll simply say that if you grew up in the 80s, this show is a must-watch; it’s basically a love letter to all the things so many of us enjoyed as kids. #DustinIsTheNewChunk

#tbt to SDCC 2016
Okay, I’m actually not over this year’s Comic-Con yet…so this week’s Throwback Thursday is a pic that reminds me of three of my favorite things: Comic-Con, turtles, and Pokemon Go.

My husband took this screenshot of a Pokemon Go Squirtle trying to escape his PokeBall by taking a flying leap up from my hand. This pic was taken in our room at the Hilton Bayfront on the extra day we tacked on to our trip due to a seriously delayed flight home. We were both wearing the turtle tees that John had bought us to wear to SDCC next year, so it was only fitting for me to pose with the Squirtle that appeared in our room. I may not have known anything about Pokemon before I downloaded the ridiculously popular app, but Squirtle quickly became one of my favorite little monsters. 🙂
San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Recap
Well, Comic-Con 2016 has ended and I’m back in Brooklyn, finally starting to feel like I’ve readjusted to normal life. As an introvert it really does take time for me to re-energize after such an intense string of days around so many people and so much stimuli. See?

Friday Five: Comic-Con Edition
I skipped Friday Five last week because COMIC-CON. There was no way I was going to be able to sit down and slap together a post during that whirlwind. So this week I’m featuring my five favorite things about San Diego Comic-Con 2016! (Don’t worry, I’ll also do a full recap soon.)
1. Stephen Amell & Friends Conversation for a Cause at Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ: these intimate panels are incredibly hard to get tickets to because there are only 200 seats and they literally sell out within seconds (no joke!). I managed to snag two tickets to this panel for my friend and I, and it was so much fucking fun! Arrow star-slash-salmon-ladder-aficionado Stephen Amell brought surprise guests Emily Bett Rickards, Cody Rhodes, Arthur Darvill, and the delightful John Barrowman (whom I had seen walking to the convention center earlier in the day). The whole panel was a riot, but the absolute highlight was when Barrowman appeared onstage in hot pink high heels and dared Stephen to walk across the stage while wearing a leopard-print pair of heels. Tears. Of. Laughter. Watch the whole panel here.

#tbt to SDCC 2016
Is it too soon to do a Throwback Thursday to Comic-Con 2016? I think not. We only returned from this year’s nerd vacation on Tuesday night and I haven’t done my recap blog post yet so SDCC is still occupying large portions of my brain space. So this week’s #tbt is an echo of last week’s: a pic from when I picked up my official SDCC WB con bag and received my first choice, Supernatural!

In case you are unfamiliar with these bags, they’re a big deal at SDCC; each year, Warner Bros produces a whole mess of bags featuring designs from the TV shows they’re promoting. These bags are given out to every Comic-Con attendee randomly so you don’t get to choose which one you get—and there are always people waiting around near the bag handout area who want to trade for the bag they really want. No joke, within a minute of receiving this bag, two people approached me and asked me if I wanted to trade. Sorry, guys, this one’s MINE. 🙂
