I’m still basking in the post-vacation glow, so this week I’m sharing five more things from our vacation.
1. Wild Huckleberry Milk Chocolate Candy Bar: we hadn’t even made it to Wyoming before I bought this! I got it at the Denver airport during our layover before flying to Jackson. I’m a total sucker for anything huckleberry flavored!
Is two weeks too soon to do a Throwback Thursday? Nah!
Now that I’ve had a few days after vacation to settle back into real life, I’m able to go back through my photos for wonderful memories! This week I’m throwing back to our first hike of the trip: a hike to Taggart Lake in Grand Teton National Park that had amazing views of the mountain range.
The weather was absolutely perfect for a hike—sunny, clear, and warm but not too warm. As you can see I had to strip my shell off, but I didn’t need to take any additional layers off beyond that.

Last year I challenged myself to watch one horror movie every day in October, and I succeeded. I’m fresh off a two-day stay at the Stanley Hotel, which inspired Stephen King to write The Shining, so I’m in full-on on horror movie mode right now, and seeing as how I thoroughly enjoyed my first take on the challenge I’m going to repeat it this year! We are still on vacation and just now I went to watch something on Netflix on my laptop in our hotel room, but the true horror is that Netflix is currently down. AGH!! Hopefully they will get it back up and running again soon. My plan is to kick off the month with The Houses October Built, which was one of my early October horror picks last year. I thought it was surprisingly inventive and creepy, so it definitely bears a re-watch.

We’re still on vacation through the weekend but I wanted to briefly share five photos from some of the places we’ve seen so far!
1. Grand Tetons in Jackson, Wyoming
I attended a wedding in Williamsburg last weekend and decided to rent another dress from Rent the Runway for the occasion rather than buying something new or wearing something old from my closet. After spending many hours browsing RTR’s website (which is enjoyable in and of itself!) for the perfect dress, I settled on the Nicole Miller Black Venice Dress, a beautiful lace piece with cutouts.
Quick note: I may or may not post a Friday Five for the next two weeks, because I’ll be on vacation. If I don’t, this feature will return when I do. 🙂
1. Rainbow Bagel: this week I discovered that my local bagel shop, Terrace Bagels, has added rainbow bagels to their lineup. While they’re not quite as rainbow-y in appearance as the OG rainbow bagel from The Bagel Store in Williamsburg, they still make eating a bagel that much more fun.
I was relieved that my September 2016 Birchbox arrived yesterday, because that gave me enough time to write this review of it before I leave for a two week vacation! September’s box design is comprised of cute, colorful confetti:
Four days ago, I received an email from Sephora notifying me that they were offering VIB members 3x points on all purchases through September 17. So (obviously) it was the perfect time to buy myself some treats. My order shipped very quickly—it arrived yesterday!
1. Rockaway Beach: going into Labor Day weekend I realized my husband and I hadn’t done a beach day all summer, so we drove out to Rockaway Beach on Saturday morning and spent a few hours relaxing on the sand, watching the surfers. The tropical storm that never hit NYC was supposedly incoming so it was overcast and a little chilly, but we still had an enjoyable morning (and I caught a lot of fun Pokemon, including two new ones, while we were there!).
1. Con Man – The Game: in case you aren’t aware, nerd kings Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk of Firefly and Serenity fame have a web series called Con Man (which I haven’t watched just yet). This past week they released a companion game for iPhone and Android, so I downloaded it and am totally into it! The premise is simple: build a convention and try to keep your geeky fans happy by making sure there are enough food vendors, toilets, and activities to do while they’re there. You also build booths and make sure the janitorial staff—led by a Joss Whedon avatar—empties the trash and handles overflowing toilets. Occasionally you must also squash vermin, hire security (headed by Kevin Smith) to oust a naked granny who appears periodically, or enlist superfans to battle aliens when they invade your con. You know…the usual con stuff. 😛 Even a non-gamer like myself (no joke, the only other game apps on my phone are Solitaire and Pokemon Go) can really get into this app. Below is a screenshot of my con so far. I need to do some booth reorganizing…it’s getting pretty crowded!
