San Diego Comic-Con 2016 starts TODAY! So in honor of my favorite four days of the year, this week’s Throwback Thursday is a pic of me after randomly receiving the Supernatural WB con bag, which was my top choice!
You have no idea how happy that made me. Someone immediately asked me if I wanted to trade my bag, but obviously I said no. 🙂
My July Birchbox arrived last Friday afternoon, but it’s taken me a few days to get my shit together to sit down and write this post! While this month’s box design is cute, it’s not my favorite. The colors and vaguely rose petal-y shapes feel very “Valentine’s Day” to me:
Comic-Con 2016 starts this week, and I cannot wait!! As I mentioned, this will be my eighth consecutive year (check out my SDCC tips for newbies if you haven’t already seen them). As with last year, I put together a bingo game for my group of friends to play as we experience the sights, sounds, and unfortunate smells of the con.
There’s no prize for getting bingo, but it’s just a fun little thing to do. If you’re going with a group, you can certainly do a prize for your own group of Comic-Con buddies!
Mark the squares off as you spot them, and when you get bingo feel free to take a pic and post to social media with #SDCCBingo.

San Diego Comic-Con 2016 begins next week, and it will be my eighth consecutive year! I’ve learned a lot about how SDCC works and have picked up many tips and tricks along the way. The internet is filled with SDCC survival guides, packing tips, and other advice, but I’d like to add some of my own tips as well as things you can expect if you’re attending SDCC for the first time.
1. Supernatural Conversation for a Cause: San Diego Comic-Con 2016 starts next week, and Zachary Levi’s Nerd HQ panel tickets just went on sale this morning. My friend managed to snag us two tickets to the SPN panel on Sunday, July 24!! They only sell 200 tickets to each panel and they literally sell out within 20 seconds of being released, so I feel like we won the lottery. She also managed to get us tickets to the same panel last year and it was one of my favorite things at SDCC 2015. So, yeah, I’m just A LITTLE BIT FUCKING EXCITED!!!
Obviously, there are one kajillion articles out there about The App That’s Taken Over The World (aka Pokémon Go), but as someone who was 110% unfamiliar with Pokémon prior to downloading the app, I’d like to share a few general tips and tricks I wish I’d known when I first started playing soooooo long ago (not even three full days have passed since I downloaded, haha).
Last Saturday I went to a birthday party and my friend was playing Pokémon Go while we were there. I had a very vague awareness that something about Pokémon was going on in the world, but I really didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. I’m not into games on my phone—I’m perfectly happy with my Solitaire app. My husband downloaded Pokémon Go this past Monday night, and I still thought the whole thing was kind of dumb. Then I got up on Tuesday morning and read a New York Times article about Pokémon Go, and it completely changed my attitude (what can I say…I’m suggestible).
This week I picked out a very cute, happy family photo for Throwback Thursday:
That’s my dad holding me (I’m probably about two), and then my aunt is in the red top. My grandmother (“Oma”) is on the left, and my grandfather (“Opa”) is on the right. Judging from the pile of presents on the floor, I’m guessing this was my birthday. Oh, and you can see that I’m clutching my Herry Monster. I was so super attached to him!
This week’s Throwback Thursday is simply adorable, if I may say so myself.
That’s me, probably around age one, holding a garbage can-free Oscar the Grouch and my beloved Herry Monster in his earlier days. I’m sitting in a small rocking chair that, though you can’t really see, has my name painted on it. My parents, amazingly, still have that chair in their house!! Not many of my childhood favorites have made it this far, but that chair is still kicking. It’s also amazing to compare Herry Monster in this photo with the one from just about two years later…that poor guy was so worn out even by the time I was three. Too bad he didn’t make it as long as the chair.
