1. Pumpkin Season at Starbucks: this Monday morning, I went to get my first Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew of the season from a Starbucks drive-thru! Some say late August is too early for the fall menu offerings, but I say it’s not soon enough. I love the PCCB, which I believe was a new item last year. Next time I go, I want to try this year’s new menu item, the Apple Crisp Macchiato.
Happy September! Fall begins later this month, and I could not be more thrilled about it. We’ve had a swampy summer here in DC, and I can’t wait for cooler temperatures and a lack of mosquitoes. Plus…pumpkin and spooky season is coming! My favorite time of the year!
Let’s take a look at the products I emptied last month:
1. SDCC Ringer Tee: San Diego Comic-Con was virtual for the second year in a row, and a lot of vendors offered 2021 con exclusives again. Yesterdays had this limited edition San Diego t-shirt that I decided to get and it just arrived last week. I actually forgot that I had ordered it because I placed my order about a month ago! How cute is this vintage design with the convention center illustration? I didn’t realize it was a unisex shirt, so my usual size is a little big on me…I’m hoping it shrinks a little. No big deal, though.
1. The White Lotus: I mostly decided to watch this show once I learned that showrunner & Survivor season 37 player Mike White had cast his David vs. Goliath tribemate Alec Merlino as a resort bartender in his HBO series. I really loved Mike and Alec as Survivor players (and that season was great). I haven’t watched the whole first season yet, as the sixth and final episode isn’t out. But I’m really enjoying it; the cast, the music, the mood, tone, and social commentary about white privilege are all top notch. I began watching this show on my own but liked it enough to start rewatching it with John. Good stuff!
1. Survivor 40: Winners at War: well, I’ve finally worked my way through all 40 seasons of Survivor, and I’m sad that this TV journey is complete. But I’m also very excited that season 41 is coming next month!! Season 40 was such a blast to watch, with so many fan favorite winners clawing tooth and nail to win the $2 million prize. I want to buy the season 40 merge tribe Buff from CBS.com, but it’s not available for purchase yet. Of course I signed up to receive an email when it becomes available. 🙂
Happy August! Well…we’re back to indoor masking here in DC, due to the increased community spread and the CDC’s updated mask recommendations. I still don’t go out a lot aside from low key outdoor activities, so the mask mandate doesn’t change much for me. However, it’s frustrating that the delta variant is proliferating because so many folks won’t get vaccinated. Please, please get vaccinated. It’s to protect you AND everyone in your community. Ending the COVID-19 pandemic is a team effort.
Stepping off my soapbox to show you the beauty products I emptied in July:
1. Mini ColourPop Haul: one of my favorite makeup brands recently held a 30% off sale, so I decided to treat myself to a few items. I settled on the Baroque eyeshadow palette (which no longer seems to be available), a second Star Wars The Child palette, two of the brand’s new Colour Stix, a Crème Shadow (which I’ll use as a lid primer), and a Brow Boss Gel to replace the one I’ve had open for a while. I haven’t used the first Baby Yoda palette that I ordered because it’s too cute, so I decided I might as well get one to use and keep the other for admiration. I’ve used the Colour Stix eye crayons a couple times and so far, so good!
1. Anniversary Getaway: our eighth wedding anniversary was last weekend, so we treated ourselves to a celebration getaway at a beautiful Airbnb in Virginia. As per usual during the pandemic, we brought our own food—using our new Igloo cooler—and cooked at home in the gorgeous chef’s kitchen (though we grilled on the patio the first night). We basically spent our trip relaxing, watching Survivor, and playing games. It was fantastic and we would love to return to this Airbnb.
1. Otherland Candles: when I spotted these gorgeous new candles on Sephora’s website, I had to have them. The one on the left is called Out of the Blue, and the one on the right is called Ultraviolet. Out of the Blue has notes of blue hydrangea, sheer hyacinth, and water lily, while Ultraviolet has notes of jasmine tea, purple violet, and wild lavender. Both smell SO GOOD. The candles are vegan and made with a soy and coconut wax blend. These jars are such gorgeous works of art; I’ll clean them out and repurpose them once I’ve burned the candles!

1. Jungalow x Opalhouse Beaded Bird Textured Square Throw Pillow: last week I was browsing Target’s website and saw that a new Jungalow x Opalhouse home decor collection was launching soon. They had some really cute items, so I ordered this pillow on launch day and it has already arrived. HOW ADORABLE! With two cats in the house, a beaded pillow with tassels might have been a bad choice. Hopefully they won’t decide it’s a giant toy. The pillow goes so well with our bedding!
