My SDCC 2023 Goodies

Time for my final post about San Diego Comic-Con 2023! It always take a little time to come down from the SDCC vibes and re-acclimate to normal life after we return. But at least I have some fun souvenirs to remember our trip by. Here’s my full SDCC 2023 haul:

A Closer Haul Look

I was so happy to find these horror posters, Basket Case and Blood Feast. BC (1982) is a truly batshit but entertaining cult classic, and BF (1963) is an early splatter film by Herschell Gordon Lewis. TBH, when I purchased Blood Feast I had it confused with Bloodsucking Freaks, which is a really gross movie that I enjoy. But I did watch BF during 31 Days of Horror in 2019 and was very amused by it.

The admonition on the BF poster is hilarious: “If You are the Parent or Guardian of an impressional adolescent DO NOT BRING HIM or PERMIT HIM TO SEE THIS MOTION PICTURE.” I love the implicated assumption that no one would possibly take a female adolescent to see this film. Our female sensibilities were just too delicate for this type of content….lol.

More Goonies Goodies!

My first purchases at SDCC 2023 were the Funko Pop! Chunk and Sloth jumbo pins. I already have several Goonies Pops and pins, but when I saw them I wasn’t *not* going to buy them. You can also see the little green army guy that a Ted Lasso cosplayer gave me to keep me safe, along with my official SDCC 2023 pin, a cute Frozen II necklace and a glow-in-the-dark Ahsoka pin from the Her Universe fashion show swag bag.

I already posted a photo of the Her Universe swag bag haul in my SDCC 2023 recap, but you can see a few more of the items in better detail here. I did give the Princess Leia Figpin to my friend and left a couple of things in the hotel room for housekeeping. But the Minnie Mouse sunglasses are very cute, and the Mickey fruit keychain will come in handy. The Loki magnet currently sits on our fridge.

The little Psyduck figurine is something that John got for me out of a Pokemon vending machine at a booth. Con Rangers merit badges are always fun; I got myself the “Remembered to Hydrate” badge and my brother-in-law got my the “Navigated a Human Traffic Jam” badge. We’ll get to Mothman down below.

Halloween Mickey

Honestly? I’m not a big Disney person. I’ve seen plenty of Disney movies and shows (especially now that Marvel and Star Wars are part of the company). But straight up Disney, like Mickey, Minnie, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, et al? They’re cute but I don’t have strong feelings about them one way or the other. However, I was very excited to see this Halloween Mickey Mouse makeup brush set and holder in the Her Universe bag. Make almost anything Halloween-y and I’ll be happy. This is so freaking cute!

National Parks Book

John got us this book called National Parks of the U.S.A, written by Kate Siber and illustrated by Chris Turnham. We really enjoy visiting national parks, and this book is a beautiful treat to have on our coffee table. The illustrator was at the booth when John bought this, and he kindly signed the inside cover for us. National parks are not the kind of thing you think of when you think of SDCC, but as I’ve said before, there’s really something for everyone there.

Mothman

John got me this adorable glow-in-the-dark Mothman from Safari LTD. They have a regular mothman, but the glowing one is a convention exclusive that debuted at SDCC 2023! They only made 1,500 pieces and mine is numbered 0102. So he’s extra special!

I just finished reading The Mothman Prophecies by John Keel, so this guy joining our home was very timely.

Look at him glow! It’s hard to get a non-blurry photo of him in the dark, but blurry photos are on-brand for cryptids anyway.

Speaking of timely, I see on the Safari LTD website that this con exclusive is available for purchase online only through August 4th 2023 at 11:59pm EST. This link is not sponsored and I get no affiliate compensation for sharing.

Well, that wraps up my full San Diego Comic-Con 2023 experience! SDCC 2024 will take place later in July than usual; the dates are set for July 25-28. And now we wait for the 2024 badge pre-registration sale…

If you attended SDCC 2023, did you end up bringing home lots of stuff? Did you buy more than usual since the panel schedule was lighter than recent years?
