Many Empties!

Hello, Almost Fall! We’ve had a pretty hot summer in DC and as always, I’m very ready for it to be over. PSLs have arrived and Halloween decor is in many stores, so things are looking up.  🙂

Ready to see what beauty products I emptied in August 2024? These are my skin care empties:

Here are the body and hair care empties:

I also used a sheet mask and decluttered a couple items:

I finished up so many things last month! Let’s get into it.

Would I Repurchase?

Let’s go over skin care first.

  • Youth to the People 15% Vitamin C + Caffeine Energy Serum [affiliate link]: the brand has gifted me products but I purchased this on my own. I brought this to SDCC and upon arrival I was was SUPER bummed to find that it had leaked in transit. I didn’t lose a ton of the serum, but the amount that leaked was noticeable. SAD FACE. I’ve gone through a few bottles of this serum and will repurchase it. It’s my favorite vitamin C serum that I’ve tried so far! I always feel like my skin looks more luminous when this serum is part of my routine.
  • Naturium UV Reflect Antioxidant SPF 50 [affiliate link]: I didn’t love this facial SPF. It’s a fluid formula, which I don’t mind, but it’s very thick and takes extra elbow grease to remove at the end of the day. More so than most other facial sunscreens than I’ve used. Double cleansing is necessary, which I do anyway, but I found this sunscreen harder to dissolve with my first cleanse than other SPFs. For this reason, I wouldn’t repurchase.
  • Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence [affiliate link]: I’ve gone through several bottles of this and will absolutely buy it again…on sale. $76 is a lot for a facial mist but I can handle buying it at a discount.
  • Paula’s Choice 6% Mandelic Acid + 2% Lactic Acid Liquid Exfoliant [gifted; affiliate link]: I used this every other night in my skin care routine. While I didn’t notice this exfoliant making much of a difference in my skin, I didn’t experience any irritation while using it. I’m just not sure if I loved it enough to buy it on my own.
  • Fresh Soy Face Cleanser [affiliate link]: I believe this was a gift with purchase. This was a good basic second cleanse for me at night and I would buy it full sized.
  • Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence [affiliate link]: people rave about this stuff so I finally got around to trying it. It was fine. Because the price point is reasonable I would consider buying it again as an extra hydration step in my skin care routine, but I don’t feel like it’s an essential product for my skin.
  • Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum mini [affiliate link]: from a Sephora Rewards gift. This brand’s products smell so good! I only used this while traveling, so I didn’t use it consistently enough to see if it made much of a difference in my skin. I did enjoy using it, though, and would consider buying it full sized.
  • Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask [affiliate link]: loved this purple brightening mask, would purchase again. Tatcha has mostly been reliably good for my skin.

On to the body and hair care:

  • Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash [affiliate link]: I bought this during a Dermstore sale because I’ve heard good things. I loved the scent! I would buy this hand wash again but only on sale, because it is pricey ($43 full price for 16.9 oz).
  • Dove Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash [gifted; affiliate link]: I didn’t love the fruity scent of this hand wash. Also, I don’t buy antibacterial hand wash because it’s not really necessary for basic at-home hand washing. For those reasons, I would not buy this on my own but I always appreciate gifts from brands.
  • Nécessaire The Body Lotion [gifted; affiliate link]: I love this fragrance-free body lotion. I’ve purchased it on my own and would do so again. PSA: Nécessaire has a site-wide 20% off sale now through 9/2/24, no promo code needed!
  • Nécessaire Rosemary Shampoo [gifted; affiliate link]: this shampoo smelled so good! I love an herbal-scented product in my morning shower. I don’t feel like the shampoo made much of a difference for my hair. That said, my hair is basically a lost cause…so take my experience for what it’s worth. Would probably not buy on my own.
  • Trader Joe’s Eucalyptus Lemon Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream: from a holiday beauty box. I didn’t initially use it because my hand skin is very sensitive, but I did end up being able to use it while traveling without it causing an eczema flare. So that’s good, and I loved the scent! TJs doesn’t sell this scent in a full sized tube.
Declutters + Mask
  • Bloomish Charcoal Sheet Mask: bought at a Cancun airport kiosk before returning from our Tulum vacation. I liked this mask and wish I had bought more of them.
  • Lancome Lash Idôle Lash-Lifting & Volumizing Mascara mini [affiliate link]: declutter because it had been open for at least three momths. I enjoyed the lengthening and volumizing effect of this mascara, but it smudged under my eyes. TBH, I can’t seem to find a mascara that doesn’t smudge under my eyes (and I don’t like using waterproof mascara). Generally I prefer drugstore mascaras because they often perform just as well as the more expensive ones, so I probably won’t repurchase this unless I go for a mini again.
  • Talika Paris Eyebrow Lipocils Ink in Brown [affiliate link]: declutter. This was a free gift when I ordered some items from the brand’s website. This eyebrow pen started to dry out pretty quickly so I wasn’t really able to see whether it helped my eyebrows grow in fuller (not that I really need it, haha). The color wasn’t quite dark enough for my brows anyway, and Brown is the deepest shade they have. Would not purchase.

That does it for my August empties! Are you looking forward to fall as much as I am?
