A Few Faves from a Garbage Year
Despite 2020 being a stinking trash fire of a year, there were some brights spots in beauty. I’ve selected four makeup and four skin care faves from 2020! Note that only a couple of these products came out this year; most are simply products that I personally started using in 2020.

Natasha Denona Glam Eyeshadow Palette
O M G how I love this palette. I’ve been using it quite a bit ever since I got it using a Sephora VIB rewards gift card. Too many palettes these days lean warm for my taste, so I absolutely love that Natasha Denona released a neutral/cool palette. This is probably my favorite beauty product of the year.
Urban Decay Naked Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette
I bought this palette when it was on sale this spring. The gorgeous orchid design on the cover ensures that this orchid nerd will hang onto the palette even after I stop using it. I’ve used this palette a bunch as well. The shades are warmer than my usual preference, but most of them aren’t too red, orange, or pink for my taste.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk Medium
I love me some Pillow Talk, but this year I discovered that I love Pillow Talk Medium even more. This warm berry shade is truly my lips but better.
ColourPop x Disney Star Wars The Child Eyeshadow Palette
Honestly, I haven’t used this palette yet because it’s TOO DAMN CUTE. But I do actually think the colors are really pretty and will probably use it eventually. I couldn’t not include this Baby Yoda/Grogu item in my faves roundup.
Glossier Futuredew Oil Serum Hybrid
I bought this during Glossier’s Black Friday sale last year but didn’t really start using it until this year. And I love it! This stuff gives such a lovely, dewy sheen to my skin. It has a kind of herbal scent that I actually really like, and adds another layer of hydration that’s much needed in the winter. So good.
Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels (Gifted)
Skyn Iceland kindly gifted me a four-pack of these eye gels earlier this year, but I liked them enough to ask for them as a birthday gift. And I used all of those up, so I recently bought more during the brand’s Cyber Monday sale.
Biologique Recherche Lotion P50
I bought this at a Virginia resort’s spa store earlier this year, before the pandemic hit. I’ve heard a lot about this product and its various formulas, so when I spied it in the spa shop I decided to try the phenol-free version for myself. I haven’t used this stuff super regularly because it’s pretty intense. But I do feel like I wake up with brighter skin when I use this during my nighttime routine!
Naturopathica Sweet Cherry Brightening Enzyme Peel
I asked for this peel for my birthday, and I’ve really been enjoying it. The peel smells like fresh cherries, and you can even see bits of the fruit in the product. My skin appears a bit brighter after using this, and I’ve used it enough times to already be running low.
