First Friday Five of 2023!

I haven’t really had much to post about lately, but I’m jumping back in with a few things I’ve been excited about.

1. The Menu: okayyyy…we watched this movie on HBO Max last weekend knowing nothing about it beforehand. Like, I didn’t even know the film’s genre. And what a fun surprise it was! I absolutely loved it. I won’t give any spoilers since I think this movie is best enjoyed cold, much like icy host Elsa (played impeccably by Hong Chau). My main critique of the film is that with such a stacked cast, some of the talent feels slightly wasted: Judith Light, Janet McTeer, and John Leguizamo in particular. However, the top-billed performers (Ray Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nicholas Hoult) do not disappoint. I highly recommend this movie!

2. Severance: we’re way behind on this show. We watched the first three episodes last year and kinda lost interest. It had a solid start, but as each episode ended I didn’t find myself dying to watch the next. The show had a big presence at SDCC last summer and I’ve continued to hear how good it is. My interest was renewed once the show received a bunch of award nominations. So we finally returned to Severance and finished it up this week. Boy, did the intensity escalate! The show definitely got much more intriguing. Now I’m looking forward to season two.

3. Skinceuticals C E Ferulic [affiliate link]: it was inevitable that I would buy this cult favorite luxury serum at some point. And by luxury I mean it costs $169 full price (I believe this is what the “mind blown” emoji is for). Dermstore sent a 15% off Skinceuticals promo code out in December, so I decided I’d finally make the purchase. People rave about how effective this vitamin C serum is and I’ve been wanting to try it for quite some time. I’m currently using Youth to the People Vitamin C serum (which I do love), and I need to finish it before I open this one. I will definitely update here when I’ve had some time to use it!

4. Farmacy Beauty Filling Good Hyaluronic Acid Plumping Serum [affiliate link]: Farmacy recently had a sale on their website, so I decided to order this serum to try out. I haven’t used this one before, but I tend to enjoy Farmacy products. I’ll also update once I’ve had a chance to use this one.

5. Fly Paper Enchanted Forest Candle: I bought this candle at Quimby’s Bookstore in Brooklyn when we went there last November. I took a whiff through my mask at the store and thought it smelled so good. I’ve only just recently begun burning it, and the scent is indeed amazing. The pine smell is so perfect for winter evenings. I want to order more of these from the brand’s website!
