A Yumi Kim Rental for an LA Wedding
It’s been more than a year since I last rented a dress from Rent the Runway! This past weekend, John and I headed to LA over the holiday for our friend’s wedding. The wedding invitation specified “cocktail attire,” so it was the perfect opportunity for me to rent another dress from Rent the Runway. As per usual, I went down the RTR rabbit hole, looking through tons of dresses before settling on the one: a Yumi Kim Save the Date dress rental.

The color of the dress is more true-to-life on the Rent the Runway website; it’s less blue in person than it appears in my photos. Here’s the RTR image of the dress:

And here’s a close-up detail of the lace. It’s beautiful!
The Save the Date dress ended up being perfect for the wedding at Carondelet House: not too dressy, not too casual. I got two sizes and ended up wearing the smaller one, as the larger one was a bit baggy. The smaller size was a touch tight while sitting, but I managed to to dance without ripping the dress. This rental served me well through a late night that ended at the 73rd floor rooftop bar at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. 🙂
The only issue was that the cheapo jeweled bracelet that I wore kept snagging on the lace. So if you rent this dress or something similar, I would steer clear of chunky jewelry that can catch in the lace. Sometimes lace can get a little itchy, but I didn’t have that problem with this dress. Aside from my bracelet snags, I absolutely loved wearing this dress!
Here’s a shot of me after doing my hair and makeup, in case you’re interested:
I used my new T3 styling wand to put some waves in my hair. I’m still learning how to use the wand, but I’m pretty happy with my work. I decided to go classic with my makeup: winged liner (NYX Epic Ink Liner) and a red lip (Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Mat in M401, from a Play! by Sephora box).
Overall I loved this Yumi Kim rental dress and I would recommend it. I’ll also mention that this rental cost me nothing because I had a RTR credit from a previous rental that didn’t work out due to a shipping issue. But generally this dress costs $35-50 to rent and is a $215 retail value. So it’s one of the more affordable options from RTR!
