I’ve written about cool-girl beauty brand Glossier in the past and have been enjoying the Moisturizing Moon Mask and Milky Jelly Cleanser. So when the brand debuted its Cloud Paint gel-cream blush in early March, I knew immediately that I had to have it…along with some other things, of course. I placed an order right after receiving the email announcing Cloud Paint, and I’ve been playing around with these products for the past several weeks!
In addition to the Cloud Paint, I ordered the Glossier Phase 2 Makeup Set, which includes Boy Brow, Stretch Concealer, and Generation G lip color, all for $50 (a savings of $2 had I bought these products separately).
First, let’s take a look at Cloud Paint ($18 apiece or two for $30 with code 2BLUSH). I ordered this product in the light pink color, Puff. I was also interested in Haze, a darker pink, but I thought it might be too dark on my fair skin. So…I’m in love with Cloud Paint! The tube is small, but this stuff really packs a punch. Seriously, just check out the photo of the product swatches near the end of this post. The amount of product I used for the Cloud Paint swatch was very small, like pinhead-sized. This blush has a really nice texture; it’s liquid-y but creamy enough for easy blending. Because I use a light touch when applying makeup, I only squeeze out a tiny bit of this stuff at a time and build up the color. It doesn’t take much Cloud Paint for me to achieve a light pink flush on my cheeks.
Now let’s talk Glossier Phase 2. The first product in this set is the Stretch Concealer, which I chose in the shade called Light. This concealer comes in a glass tub with a shiny silver lid, and the packaging feels the most luxurious of the few Glossier products I’ve tried to date. I am really liking this concealer! I basically only use concealer to cover up my undereye circles, and this product does the trick for sure. The color works well with my skin tone, and I think my favorite part about this concealer is that it has a dewy finish. Most other concealers I’ve used under my eyes have a matte finish, which I feel draws attention to the fact that I’m trying to cover something up. Not so with Stretch Concealer! I apply by swirling my ring finger a couple of times around the pot (only after I’ve washed my hands, of course) and then pat the product underneath my eyes. I don’t need to use much concealer—a little goes a long way with this one as well. If you have oily skin I could see the dewy finish appearing greasy, but you can always mattify with a bit of powder if you want.
The next Phase 2 product is cult favorite Boy Brow. Seriously, like every beauty blog I’ve ever read is all about this stuff…so, duh, I had to try it. I chose the Brown shade, but in hindsight I should have ordered Black because my brows are naturally super dark. This brow groomer comes in a small tube with a tiny wand that’s about the same size as the one on Benefit’s Gimme Brow, maybe a touch larger. The formula is inspired by hair pomade and is intended to “thicken, fill in, and groom.” This product definitely helps keep my brows in place—they are fairly thick and can get unruly. I wouldn’t say it fills my brows in as much as Gimme Brow, but Brown simply might not be dark enough for me. I would buy this again so that I could try the Black color and see how that works on me.
The third and final Phase 2 product is Generation G, a matte lip color that I ordered in the shade Like. According to Glossier, this formula, offered in six shades, “gives the look and finish of just-blotted lipstick, without the blot.” I certainly agree with that assessment; I REALLY love the super subtle pink touch this lip color gives my lips. With several coats of application, Like is actually one of the best and most natural-looking My Lips But Better colors that I’ve ever tried! But there’s a catch: the formula is not moisturizing enough for my taste. I abhor the feeling of dry lips and am constantly reapplying lip product, whether it’s balm, lipstick, or gloss. Even though I apply this product over lip balm, my lips start to dry out faster than they do when I wear basically any other lip product. The packaging also feels pretty cheap compared to the other Glossier products I’ve tried. It’s too bad, because I would totally re-purchase Generation G if it was more moisturizing. There are a lot of reviews about this product being too dry, so maybe Glossier will eventually take the feedback into account and reformulate? That sure would be nice. 🙂
